Magic And Science

I believe that science and religion/spirituality are the same idea. They are the belief that something is bigger than us. They give us reasons, solutions, answers for why things are the way they are. We get comfort from finding out the ‘why’ of the world.

Carl Sagan said we are all made of star stuff. From long dead light our lives were created. We are actually made from dying light, darkness, and light again. Maybe the very stars we wish on, are the same stars that made us. That sounds an awful lot like magic to me, and science. From a dying wish came my own life. I might just be the direct result of an ancestor, crossing the ocean on a sail boat, looking up at the stars, and wishing for a family. How many people through out history, looked up at the star that made me, and wished on it? How many wishes am I made of?

The earth began with a giant bang and God turned on some lights. We are all science and spirit. Out of chaos, out of something exploding, what I’m sure felt like the world ending, the world began. Stars died, a life was born. I think there is no coincidence that the earth is round (the earth is round ya’ll, really). Not when everything else goes in circles, cycles, turns back on itself to start at the beginning over and over again.

In every day life, we make messes, and create. Cook, bake, draw, paint, build, write, compose, etc. all things that start with chaos. Something new comes out of the mess, something that has never been before. Every time. Yes! Every single time we make a mess, we also create something the world has never seen. A giant bang, God turns on some lights.
